HISTORICAL JOURNEY
Wimpys Little Step is quite simply a reining phenomenon. During his three year old year, this bionic stallion captured the interest of the reining industry when he won both the 2002 AQHA Congress Open Reining Futurity and the 2002 NRHA Open Futurity with Shawn Flarida in the saddle. In doing so, Wimpys Little Step earned over $185,000.
He is only the second horse to win both the Congress and NRHA Open Futurities.
Just six short years later, the 9-year-old stallion became the NRHA's newest and youngest Million Dollar Sire.
Remarkably, Wimpys Little Step and his sire both became NRHA Million Dollar Sires in 2008, another record for the NRHA history books.
Sire of Wimpys Little Chic, With earnings of $508,536 Wimpys Little Chic hit the NO 1. position of All Time Money Earning NRHA Horses. Wimpys Little Chic, shown by Shawn Flarida and owned by Arcese, is from Wimpys first foal crop. Wimpys Little Chic flew into the winners circle in 2007. With Shawn Flarida in the saddle they completed an amazing run at the NRHA Futurity which earned them $150,293 and the Championship. This was followed by another victory at the 2008 NRBC. There was no holding this mare back, she completed the trio of championships, coming home with the NRHA Derby Championship. Total earning for her first show season was in excess of $179,000. To date the mare stands at Lifetime Earnings of over $500,000.
Wimpys Little Step has stepped up in a big way and, in just his first year as a breeding horse, had sired six NRHA Futurity Open finalists, including a Futurity Champion. The stand-out's first foal crop produced 32 money-earning offspring, bringing in a combined $750,000+
Wimpys Little Step made history at the 2010 Carolina Classic Derby, held May 13-16 in Williamston, N.C., when his offspring surpassed $2 million in NRHA earnings.
At 11, The flashy palomino stallion joined eight of NRHA’s leading stallions as a Two Million Dollar Sire and is the youngest – by a margin of five years – to attain that status.
In 2011, at 12, Wimpys LIttle Step was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame, and reached another milestone in October by becoming a $3 Dollar Sire.
Wimpy has already proven his ability to pass his talent on to future generations.

2002 NRHA FUTURITY RUN
2002 CONGRESS REINING FUTURITY RUN
2002 NRHA FUTURITY In the NRHA Open Futurity Finals, Shawn Flarida came as close to perfection as a reiner can get. He guided Mark Schols’ Wimpys Little Step to a score of 233 and a standing ovation from the extremely enthusiastic crowd. Everything went right. Every maneuver was in the plus column. Shawn’s skill, talent and confidence were matched only by his three-year-old stallion’s skill, talent and confidence. They performed as one.
They were spectacular. But it wasn’t a cake walk.
It took a 438.5 go-round composite to make the Finals. The field of Futurity Finalists was diverse. The field included NRHA Open Derby Champions and Reserve Champions Brent Wright, Steve Archer, Tom McCutcheon and Duane Latimer as well as Saddlesmith Open Champions Craig Schmersal and Bryant Pace.
Then there was Shawn Flarida and Wimpys Little Step. They came to victory in OKC with The Tradition Futurity Reserve Championship and the All American Quarter Horse Congress Futurity Championship titles already on their show record. They went home with one more title – the most coveted in the reining horse industry: NRHA Open Futurity Open Division Champions.
WIMPYS LITTLE STEP AS A SIRE
WIMPYS LITTLE CHIC AND SHAWN FLARIDA AFTER WINNING THE NRHA DERBY Wimpys Little Chic is the first horse in NRHA history to cross the $500,000 earnings mark
and is NRHA’s all-time leading money earner.
2007 NRHA FUTURITY: Oklahoma City, OK – December 2, 2007 – The 2007 NRHA Open Futurity Champion wasn’t decided until the very last run of the night when NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida edged out the highest score of the evening, aboard Wimpys Little Chic. The three time NRHA Open Futurity Champion is always a crowd favorite, but when his score of 231.5 was announced on Saturday night you could hear the cheers, whistles and applause throughout the barns.
2008 NRBC: The crowd saw its share of memories made when Shawn Flarida delivered a 1-2 punch by earning the NRBC Open Championship on Wimpys Little Chic and the Reserve title on RC Fancy Step.
This guaranteed their sire, Wimpys Little Step, the NRBC Leading Sire Award. Together, Wimpys Little Step’s foals earned over $218,000 at this year’s NRBC.
2008 NRHA DERBY: History was made on the night of June 28, 2008, in the historic coliseum at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, Okla., as NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida maneuvered Wimpys Little Chic to the NRHA Derby Championship. The win made the 4-year-old mare the only horse in National Reining Horse Association History to ever win the top three events the sport has to offer; the NRHA Futurity, the National Reining Breeders Classic, and the NRHA Derby - what is essentially reining's version of a Triple Crown.
Flarida and Wimpys Little Chic, dominated the event all week, beginning by winning the preliminary go-round with a 227.
All eyes were on the flashy mare by Wimpys Little Step and out of Collena Chic Olena as she entered the pen for the finals. With her trademark precision, she maneuvered through Pattern 5 with the ease and grace that have become her distinctive style. As the pair blazed on to the pattern-ending three stops, the crescendoeing crowd bellowed its approval. As the pair exited, many fans rose for a standing ovation, paying homage to the mare that many have called one of the most talented horses in reining history.
WIMPYS LITTLE CHIC Wimpys Little Chic, (out of Collena Chic Olena by Smart Chic Olena) from his first foal crop, made history. The only horse to ever win the top three major reining events - the NRHA Futurity, NRBC and NRHA Derby - and no horse has ever won reining's version of the Triple Crown in the same year.
