WIMPYS LITTLE STEP HITS IMPRESSIVE MILESTONE NUMBER NINE

NRHA For Immediate Release - Oklahoma City, Okla., (12-15-2016) - One of the most decorated National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) sires has done it again. This time, Wimpys Little Step can thank his 12 offspring in the 2016 NRHA Futurity Finals for helping him achieve his newest milestone, NRHA Nine Million Dollar Sire. At 17 years old, Wimpys Little Step is only the second sire to reach this status. The palomino stallion, bred by Hilldale Farm, is owned by Xtra Quarter Horses, LLC of Purcell, Okla.

During the 2016 NRHA Futurity, with six offspring in the NRHA Non Pro Futurity Finals, one offspring of Wimpys Little Step took home a Non Pro Futurity Championship. Wimpys Little Jessie (out of Jessie Dot Tari) ridden by Taylor Zimmerman won the Level 1 Non Pro, in addition to placing third in the Level 3 Non Pro, seventh in the Level 4 Non Pro and third in the Level 2 Non Pro. Collectively Zimmerman and Wimpys Little Jessie took home an estimated $44,600.

With these outstanding performances by Wimpys Little Step offspring, and the many others shown at the 2014 NRHA Futurity, Wimpy was able to hit the NRHA Seven Million Dollar Sire mark, making the show even more memorable. Xtra also raked in an impressive $220,000 for the second highest seller at the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale with the 2012 Bay Stallion, Xtra Voodoo Doc (Shiners Voodoo Dr x Call Me Miss Hickory x Docs Hickory).
This year’s 2015 NRHA Futurity should be just as exciting, with the Xtra Breeders Futurity running alongside. It’s the first incentive program of its kind, with an additional $600,000 in prize money.
2014 DEC NRHA MILESTONE - $7 MILLION DOLLAR SIRE
In eight months after achieving the six million dollar mark, Wimpys Little Step is the newest National Reining Horse Association’s (NRHA) Seven Million Dollar Sire. This makes him the second stallion to earn such a prestigious title, with the only other stallion to reach this mark being Topsail Whiz.
Wimpys Little Step is a 2011 NRHA Hall of Fame Inductee and is by Two Million Dollar Sire and Hall of Fame Inductee Nu Chex To Cash and out of Leolita Step by Forty Seven. He is owned by NRHA Corporate Partner Xtra Quarter Horses, LLC in Purcell, Okla. where he currently stands. With limited showing in 2002 and ridden by NRHA’s only Five Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida, Wimpys Little Step has an impressive show record with NRHA Lifetime Earnings of more than $185,000.
2014 JULY NRHA MILESTONE - $6 MILLION DOLLAR SIRE
IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY THAT WIMPYS LITTLE Step and Shawn Flarida, the NRHA’s All-Time Leading Money Earning Rider, made their historic appearance at the 2002 NRHA Futurity.
There, the duo swept both of the competition’s early rounds before going on to earn the highest mark—a score of 233.
A dozen years have since passed but the golden palomino bred by Hilldale Farm, Brashear, Texas, and now owned by Xtra Quarter Horses LLC of Purcell, Oklahoma, continues to make history. If anything, his impressive arena career has been eclipsed by his stature as a sire of NRHA money earners. In April, Wimpy’s offspring pushed past the $6 million earnings mark, solidifying the stallion’s place among the top-five all-time leading sires in the NRHA. He is the only horse in the elite club to have surpassed the $6 million earnings milestone while still a teenager.

THE NATIONAL REINING BREEDERS CLASSIC (NRBC) in Katy, Texas, is where top-notch reiners gather in April each year to run at over a million dollars in prize money. The open finals never disappoint on Saturday night and it was true again this year. Wimpyneedsacocktail (Wimpys Little Step x Seven S Mimosa), owned by Xtra Quarter Horses LLC, and shown by NRHA Professional Thiago Boechat, won the Level (L) 4 and L 3 Open Championships, edging out another Wimpys Little Step offspring, Wimpys Littlecolonel, by just one point.
It was a win-win situation for Xtra Quarter Horses, who owns the NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire Wimpys Little Step. The good news didn’t stop there for Purcell, Oklahoma-based Xtra Quarter Horses as they also owned the L 1 Open Champion, Whizzer Whiz, shown by Xtra’s assistant trainer, NRHA Professional Fernando Salgado.

Extreme sports are all the rage, and Wimpyneedsacocktail showed what extreme reining looks like when the son of Wimpys Little Step exploded into the arena and earned the Levels 4 and 3 Open Championships at the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) in Katy, Texas.
“He was feeling very good. He had a quarter crack last year and that kept him from being 100 percent, and he still showed really good for me,” said Thiago Boechat, who rode Wimpyneedsacocktail for Xtra Quarter Horses, Purcell, Okla.
“But this year he’s 100 percent and he gave it all to me. I asked him, and he gave me 120 percent.” Boechat said he could hear the roar of the crowd as the 2007 stallion blasted through the pattern in near-perfect form at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, Katy, Texas. “I think I have a lot of friends,” he said with a grin.

Wimpys Little Step Youngest NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire
October 26, 2012 By Christina Brezack – Oklahoma City, Okla. – A year after achieving the three million dollar mark, Wimpys Little Step slides into another great accomplishment by becoming a National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Four Million Dollar Sire. This 13-year-old palomino is the youngest stallion to reach this milestone by a margin of six years with a total of $4,028,000 earned by his progeny. He has joined the ranks of Hollywood Dun It, Topsail Whiz and Smart Chic Olena.
